Gears of war Beta thoughts: Gears of bore

Posted by FuhaioftheGrave - May 1st, 2011

being a fan of Gears of war I jumped at a chance to play the multiplayer beta.
10 matches in and I have to say I relativly underwhelmed by what i'v experinced thus far.

Don't get me wrong, the gameplay feels like what gears of war should, but having respawns
, even a limited number, kind of dulls the experience for me. Specially when my teammates start playing the game like it were halo.

your NOT supposed to run out into the open gun's ablazing and expect favorable results in gears.
sure it's a good idea to agressively move up, cover from cover, drawing fire while your teamates are hopefully atempting to flank your target and catch them off guard. It IS a good idea to try an pick up the powerweapons on the map in an atempt to have an advatange fire power wise. However you are NOT master BLOOD chief, or a spartan that can soak up damage like a sponge is able to soak up water.

Don't get me wrong. I'm by no mean's intending to bash halo, it's just while they are both shooters the core mechanics involed in the multiplayer for both are rather different. While you can take the lessons of moving from cover to cover you learn in gears to halo and prosper, trying to run and eun like you would in halo would have less than favorable results in Gears.

In terms of the level design I can't complauin abotu what i'v seen. the sports arena is big,
interesting, and has an ample amount of alternate routes that provide various stratagies
to use. I'm just hoping they fix that can't see the hosts name crap that pulled in gears 2
so I can actuall team up with my friends..

seriously it's a team based game, so why shouldn't you be encouraged to play
as a team in ranked games with players you practice with, and have learned their habits, weaknesses, and strengths from?

It's like signing up for a team based tourny with your friends and then getting split up by the
staff to other teams with people you haven't met before and haven't had a chance to learn how they play and coordiante with,
